Common uses
Zoloft is an SSRI, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which is used in the treatment of depression, OCD, panic attacks and severe premenstrual syndrome (PMDD) by restoring neurotransmitters in the brain. Doctors may prescribe Zoloft for other conditions as appropriate.


Before using
Make sure your doctor is aware of any other medication that you may be taking before taking Zoloft, as these can inhibit or alter the way the medicine works. Tell your doctor if you are considering taking any other medication whilst taking Zoloft, or if you are suffering from any other medical conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Directions
Use this medicine as directed by your doctor, and try to stick to regular dosage times each day.

Cautions
Check with your doctor to make sure you aren’t allergic to any of this medicine’s ingredients. Never stop taking Zoloft without first consulting your doctor. Remember that it can take several weeks before this medicine starts to take effect.

It is recommended that you closely monitor your condition, particularly at the start of treatment or if you should change your dosage. Watch for any change in personality or mental condition, such as feelings of anxiety, stress, insomnia, feeling hostile, agitated, or having panic attacks. Contact a medical professional as soon as any of these become apparent. It is advisable that you notify family members or carers to watch out for anything of these changes in you also.

This medicine may affect your reactions. Do not drive or operate any dangerous machinery until you are fully aware of how the medication affects you.

Possible side effects
Seek immediate medical advice if you think you may be suffering any side effects from Zoloft. These may include excessive perspiration, dryness of the mouth, diarrhea or insomnia. Also, sudden weight gain, heightened depression, or sexual problems should be reported to a doctor at once.

Although unlikely, allergic reactions may includerashes, itchiness, swellings, respiratory problems and lightheadedness. Should you notice any other issues that could be contributed to Zoloft, consult your doctor.

Overdose
If you think you may have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical assistance from your local poison control center, doctor or emergency room.

Storage
Store Zoloft at room temperature, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Always keep all medicines out of the reach of children of pets.
