Common uses
Zocor is used to reduce cholesterol in conjunction with a low cholesterol and low fat diet. It works by blocking a cholesterol producing enzyme in your body. It is not a cure for high cholesterol, but will help to control cholesterol levels.
Before using
Do not start or stop any medication without your doctor’s approval. Make sure your doctor is informed of any other medical conditions, including pregnancy/breastfeeding, prior to taking Zocor. Contact your doctor if you think you may be suffering any side-effects to taking Zocor.
Zocor is not recommended for those with a history of, or current liver conditions. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any queries regarding Zocor.
Directions
There are many contributing factors as to the recommended dose of Zocor. Follow your doctor’s advice as to your daily dosage.
Do not drink or eat large amounts of grapefruit whilst taking Zocor. Store it in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children.
Never take two doses at once. Should you miss a dose, take it immediately, unless you are near to your next dose, in which case, miss the dose altogether and return to your next scheduled dose.
Cautions Do not take Zocor if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients. Follow the diet plan set up by your doctor. Always check with your doctor before stopping taking prescribed medicine. All laboratory appointment must be kept whilst taking Zocor to enable a doctor to monitor your progress.
Contact your doctor immediately if you suspect you are pregnant. Do not use Zocor whilst breastfeeding. Possible side effects Watch for side effects whilst taking Zocor and contact your doctor immediately if you think you may be experiencing them. These may include jaundice; nausea; dizziness; aches; stomach ache; diarrhea; discolored urine; rashes; swelling; or vomiting.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction to Zocor. These may include swelling; rashes; itchiness; nausea; or respiratory problems.
Overdose
If you think you may have taken an overdose, you must contact your poison control center of doctor immediately. Drug interactions
Consult your doctor before taking any other medicines with Zocor, as these can inhibit or alter the effects.
