Description:
Tamiflu is an antiviral medication that blocks the actions of influenza virus types A and B in your body. It is the principle medication prescribed to combat the recent swine-flu outbreak.
Directions for use:
It is prescribed for treating adults and children 1 year and older with influenza (flu) whose symptoms started within the last day or two. The recommended starting dose of Tamiflu for most adults and adolescents is 75 mg, twice a day, for five days. Decreased doses are recommended for those between the ages of 1 and 13 years old, as per your doctor’s instruction.
Precautions:
Take Tamiflu as soon as possible following an infection. As more infected cells replicate over time, the more the effects of the drug will be diminished.
Adverse effects:
Common side-effects associated with Tamiflu are:
Headaches
Diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Vomiting
Nausea
Should any of these symptoms persist, consult your doctor immediately.
