Common uses
Prozac is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is mainly used to treat depression as well as other complaints such as panic attacks, OCD, and eating disorders. It may also be prescribed in the treatment of other complaints, as determined by your physician.
Before using
Some medicines may react with Prozac, altering its effect or its effectiveness as an antidepressant. Consult your doctor if you are taking any additional medication as well as Prozac. Inform them if any other medical conditions you have or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, prior to taking this medication.
Directions
Take Prozac with food if you feel unwell if you take it without. Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor first. Don’t miss any doses. If you do, skip that dose and continue with your regular doses. Never take double the dose at once.
Cautions
Should you have an allergic reaction to Prozac, consult a medical specialist immediately. Make sure you are not allergic to any if its ingredients prior to taking Prozac.
Monitor your condition closely at the start of treatment. Should you experience any changes to your mental state, such as anxiety, panic attacks, hostile tendencies or feelings of restlessness, consult your doctor immediately, so they can evaluate your condition. Those close to you should also be made aware of your treatment, so that they can also help or notify you if you suffer any changes in your mood or personality.
Possible side effects
If you think you may be suffering side effects to Prozac, such as changes to your sex drive/sexual function, sickness, diarrhea, nausea, tiredness, headaches, dehydration or excessive perspiration, consult your doctor immediately. Should an allergic reaction, such as a rash, itching, swelling of limbs or glands, or lightheadedness occur, seek immediate medical assistance.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed on any medicine, contact a doctor, emergency room, or poison control center immediately.
Other Information
Store Prozac in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.
