Common uses
Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat heartburn, ulcers, gastro-esophageal reflux and other gastro-health issues by blocking stomach acid production.
Before using
Always consult your doctor before stopping or starting to take Prilosec.Inform your doctor of any condition you may be suffering from before taking this medication.
Directions
Use this medicine as directed by your doctor. Swallow each capsule whole. If you have difficulty swallowing whole, open a capsule and sprinkle it on a tablespoon of applesauce. Take Prilosec before a meal, unless told otherwise by your doctor.
Store at room temperature in a sealed container away from sunlight and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Continue taking this medicine even if your condition improves. Should you miss taking a dose, take another immediately. If it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose, move on to that one and skip the missed dose. Don’t ever take two doses at once.
Cautions
Do not do anything else that could be dangerous, such as drive or operate machinery until you know how you react to this medication. Your senses may be compromised while taking this medicine, and caution must be taken. Alcohol should be taken in moderation.
Always check with your doctor before taking any other medicine with Prilosec. Women who are considering pregnancy should discuss the effects of Prilosec with their doctor. It is not recommended to breastfeed while taking Prilosec.
Possible side effects
Possible side effects include rashes; constipation; coughing; and headaches. Although unlikely, allergic reactions can occur, including rashes; itchiness; swelling of joints and extremities; and respiratory problems. If you notice any of these symptoms or any other possible side effect/allergy, consult your doctor immediately.
Overdose
If you think you may have taken an overdose, seek medical help from your doctor or poison control center immediately. Additional information
