Generic Prevacid Chemical Name: LANSOPRAZOLE

Common uses
Prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat gastro-esophageal reflux, erosive esophagitis or ulcers by blocking acid production in the stomach. It can also be used alongside antibiotics to treat certain types of ulcers. Prevacid may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by a physician.

Before using
Use this medicine according to the advice of your doctor, as dosage will vary depending on individual circumstances. Take in the morning unless a doctor tells you otherwise. Do not break the capsule, but swallow each one whole. If you have difficulty with this, you may open a capsule and sprinkle it on soft food, such as apple sauce or yoghurt.

Missed dose
Should you miss a dose, take one as soon as possible, unless it is nearly time for your next dose, in which case, skip it altogether and move on as per your schedule.

Be sure to keep all laboratory and doctor appointments while taking Prevacid. Make sure you have checked with a doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medication. If you are a pregnant woman, make sure you have discussed your condition with your doctor before taking Prevacid. Do not take while breastfeeding.

Possible side effects include constipation or diarrhea. If symptoms continue, consult your doctor. In the unlikely event of an allergic reaction, tell your doctor immediately. Symptoms include swelling; rashes; itchiness or respiratory problems. Consult your doctor if you are considering taking any other medication with Prevacid.
