Nexium (Generic)

Chemical Name: ESOMEPRAZOLE
 
Common uses
Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor (ppi) used to treat ulcers, heartburn, or gastro-esophageal reflux. It can also be used in the treatment of other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Consult your doctor before taking Nexium if you have any allergies, if you are taking any other medication, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Directions
Take Nexium according to your doctor’s advice, as dosage will vary from patient to patient. Take at least one hour before eating. Take each capsule whole, without breaking them. Should you have difficulty in swallowing, open the capsule and sprinkle it on a tablespoon of applesauce. Should you miss a dose, take one immediately, unless you are near to your next dose, in which case skip the missed dose and move on as per your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose of Nexium.

Cautions
Always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medication. If you are a woman considering becoming pregnant, discuss the effects of Nexium with your doctor beforehand. Also check with your doctor before breastfeeding while taking Nexium.

Possible side effects
If you think you are suffering any side effects as a result of taking Nexium, consult your doctor as soon as possible. In the unlikely event of an allergic reaction occurring, seek medical assistance immediately. These can include rashes; itchiness; feeling dizzy, swellings and respiratory problems.
Overdose
If you think you may have taken an overdose of Nexium, contact your doctor or emergency room at once. Overdose symptoms can include nausea; confusion; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; and sweating.

Drug interactions
Inform your doctor if you are taking, or considering taking any other medication, as these can alter or inhibit the effects of Nexium.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
