Coupons have always been used as a means of promoting brand loyalty and attracting customers to new and improved products. With the advent of online shopping the competition for certain products has increased dramatically and new devices have been created to deal with this. Online coupon codes are one such device.
Back in the day coupons were to be found in the back of newspapers, magazines and attached to promotional materials posted through your door. In this day of high technology –the digital age- coupons can be found in the form of codes embedded in websites.
These can be used in a variety of ways. Often coupon codes are to be found in dedicated websites dealing with a specific type of product, such as the online drug store. These satellite sites are browsed by consumers who come across them as a result of shrewd marketing strategies and spamming.
Once the consumer has decided to use the coupon, they can use the codes in a variety of different ways. One such method would be to submit the coupon code by phone or fax. Market research tells us that it is mainly older generations that prefer to use this method, as it is most familiar to them and quite straightforward. They simply call the coupon company, tell them the code, and the agent will deduct the specified amount from their order.
Some companies offer the facility to submit coupon codes directly from their website. A customer can simply click on a button and the specified amount is deducted from their account for the product in question. This is fast becoming the most popular method of coupon submission.
The last method is submission via email. A customer can email the coupon company with the order details and account information and include the coupon code in the text. This way the coupon company can submit the order as a whole with the coupon amount already deducted.
Much has changed since the days of cutting out your coupons with your kitchen scissors as soon as the cereal packet is empty. Although traditional methods of discount marketing still exist, the modern age is fast catching up. Binary code is replacing the barcode and soon coupon codes will solely exist in cyberspace.
