Directions for use
Take tablets orally. Follow the directions as prescribed. It is best to take Ciprofloxacin on an empty stomach. One or two hours either side of meals is the preferred time. Ciprofloxacin should not be taken with any dairy products or calcium-fortified juices alone; however, ciprofloxacin may be taken with food that contains these products. Take your medication at regular intervals. Only take your medication as directed by your doctor. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking except on your prescriber's advice. Special care may be needed when treating children. Seek advice from your pediatrician or doctor.
Possible side-effects
You must report these side effects to your doctor as soon as possible; breathlessness; fever; hallucinations; increased sensitivity to sunlight; irregular heartbeat, palpitations or chest pain; joint, muscle or tendon pain; nervousness, excitability, restlessness; reduced amount of urine; severe or watery diarrhea; skin rash, itching; seizures (convulsions); swelling of the face or neck; vomiting. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve in 2 to 3 days. If you get severe or watery diarrhea, do not self medicate. Call your doctor for advice. Make sure you drink lots of water while taking ciprofloxacin. Drink several cups a day. This helps to prevent crystals from developing in your urine. Keep out of the sun, or keep well covered outdoors and use a sunblock. Do not use sunbeds or tanning booths. You may get drowsy or lightheaded. Do not do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how the medication affects you. To reduce the risk of lightheadedness or fainting spells, do not sit or stand up quickly, especially if you are an older person. Do not exercise or take ciprofloxacin until your doctor tells you to do so. If you are going to undergo surgery, tell your doctor that you are taking ciprofloxacin.
Precautions
If you miss taking ciprofloxacin, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose, never take extra. This medication should be taken at regular intervals. Keep out of the reach of children in a secure container. Store at room temperature, with the container properly sealed. Dispose of carefully if it has passed its expiry date.
